Makeup Focus

The trick here is wearing makeup that appears natural yet put together beautifully. Many women love and always favor products that will allow their facial skin to breathe with ease and not stress them during those busy days. Here, we introduce you to the process of getting the perfect look, with makeup to create that youthful and clear complexion compared to wearing over-the-counter products that will only create a dull, matte makeup look.

The purpose of makeup is to enhance the skin, which means, creating extra glow with the perfect products. They could range from cleansers, toners, foundations, creams and powders. You may also want to know what works best for you before you buy the product. Many uptown beauty shops have samples to enable you chose the color that best fits your skin tone. Choosing the right color gives one a more natural look and a beautiful complexion.

Also, it is advisable for one to settle for well acclaimed brands such as sleek, M.A.C or Maybelline which promise the consumer high-end products. After you have chosen your make up well and are ready for a beautiful face, here are a few tips to go along with:

Eye shadow

Keep it subtle by trying out a contrasting color. It looks beautiful. Do not use more than two colors if you are looking for a chic look.

Mascara

Many times we look at someone and think, “she is strikingly chic!”. We immediately begin to search for what it is about them that captured our attention. If you choose to use one thing that will always impact your look, mascara is the way to go.

Neat Eye brows

Pluck only under your eyebrows to give you a perfect shape. You may not want to go too thin on the brows.

Lip stick

Use a brush to even out application of color. It is okay to use a gloss over the lipstick to give some shine. Get a good lipstick with vitamin E to keep the lips moisturized.

HOLIDAY FRAGRANCES - Arabian Scents

One of the common fragrances this holiday is that of Oudh. Burning Fragrances has a long tradition that has been passed down over the generation, the art of combining sweet scents and soaking woodchips with the fragrance is alive and fluorishing today.

How to Create Mood with Arabian Scents

The aroma stays with you and leaves a powerful remembrance this season. To give some elegance to your home this festive season , add a traditional Arabian Oudh Attar or spray to be inviting at your front door. You can burn incense on your veranda and other areas in your home. Your visitors will feel welcome in a special way!

Attar - a natural and exotic perfume obtained by extraction from agarwood trees. Attar is derived from an ancient Persian word which means "to smell sweet".

Bakhoor or Bukhoor - an arabic word that translates as 'incense' in English, which is a derivative of the root arabic word Bukhar (meaning steam, vapour and fume). It is a mixture of scents and usually looks like small pieces of coal about the size of your thumb. This sort of scent is used to burn in the home and is a kind of air freshener for rooms and houses.

Ramadan in joy

Ramadhan calls for humility and grace in all aspects of one’s life

This season often takes place on the 9th month of the Islamic calendar. All Muslims around the world spend the daylight hours completely fasting. It is a time when people purify the soul, refocus their attention on God and practice self sacrifice.

At this time of month, the most observed acts are giving of alms, purity dress code and dedication to healthy living.

During this season, women and men dress modestly as a sign of purity. Women cover themselves and wear long clothing while the men are required to dress modestly too.

You too can go through Ramadan in style and not trade your purity by wearing the finest of materials in fashion. You owe it to yourself to look your best yet remain in the mood of holiness.

Giving of alms is another act that one should consider if they are able to. Many Muslims show an act of compassion towards fellow Muslims who can not afford the basics to break the fast or take them through the nights. Mosques are open for communal dining and many follows go to break the fast in unity. It is a blessing to give than to receive.

Many brothers and sisters are dedicated to healthy living this season as going without food for long hours can be harmful to the body. When you break the fast, do not forget to take water and more water so that you can maintain the healthy glow towards Eid.

And after Ramadan is over, the holy pilgrimage of the Hijja awaits. We are looking forward to sharing our travel tips with you.

Hair Talk

The sudden hype on lace wigs is on…

Are you an ebony colorized woman, living the urban life and following what’s hot? I bet you have walked down the streets of Dar es Salaam, Nairobi or Kampala and noticed a fast trend picking up-the lace wig. At some point, you will run into a woman spotting the longest of tresses and looking well groomed. Yes, many girls ('fashionistas') are rushing for the lace wig; a friend of mine with a beauty store told me they sell like hot cake and are on every A-Listers’ must have this season.

Well, there is no denying, the lace wig is the new-or should I say not so new but in- design all fashionistas have to catch. It is as magical as growing your own hair at an instant. Do you want to have hair like the celebrities you spot in music videos? Way to go! You can borrow the look from Beyonce or opt for a bohemian lace wig, the variety is endless and they come in all colors and lengths.

Wearing the lace wig

Here are a few sassy lace looks and how to achieve them

Wear your lace like Beyonce and achieve instant big hair

Or opt for the shot Bob often sported by Ciara

First you will need,

A wide toothed comb
Sulphate free shampoo
Conditioner
Leave in conditioner
Detangle hair in small bits using a brush.
  1. When washing, fill bucket or sink with cool water.
  2. Put desired amount of shampoo in the sink or bucket
  3. Let it sink for 3o minutes
  4. Rinse the unit holding the hair but not inside the cap
  5. Refill water in the sink or bucket
  6. Put desired amount of conditioner and sink for 30 minutes
  7. Rinse and let hair air dry

Note

It is important to keep hair moisture since it is not receiving natural oils from the head. When hair loses moisture, it creates split ends and this happens to the wigs too. It could turn your expensively real hair into a raggedy look so have extra time for it.

The songbird goes on

August 6th saw two joint events which brought out the best of both worlds-Fashion, Hair and Beauty then Music. First, Shear Hair and Beauty Magazine launched her 6th copy. It is a Bi-monthly product so look out for the next copy in early October.

Then we had the sweet Lady Jay Dee celebrating 10 years of her music career. The concert contained a lot of symbolism and reality as Lady Jay Dee was the first to cover Shear Hair and Beauty’s maiden issue and was a good way of showing how both have come a long way and still going strong.
Lady Jay Dee has always been a fashion icon. In this picture, one would simply love her trendy hairstyle.

Lady Jay Dee has come a long way and deserves the platform that she is on at the moment. With a lot of difficulties in the African music industry, with issues ranging from piracy to dupes, this fine lady has managed to waiver the storm and what way would she do it than to show gratitude to her fans at this concert.

The response from Lady Jay Dee and Shear fans was overwhelming as sales skyrocketed at the entrance.
